A Date Palm in Jannah

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ complaining that his neighbour had refused him a single date palm. Abu al-Dahdah heard the affair, sold his entire orchard to that neighbour for that one date palm, and gave the date palm to the needy man.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There shall be so many laden, large date palms for Abu al-Dahdah in Jannah!”

’I Have Lent My Orchard to My Rabb’

When the verse — “Who is it that will lend to Allah a goodly loan, so He may multiply it for him many times over?” (al-Baqarah 245) — was revealed, Abu al-Dahdah came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allah! Does Allah ask of us a loan? Then bear witness — I have lent my orchard to my Rabb. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 193–194 — Kandhlawi — Abu al-Dahdah's 'I lend my orchard to Allah' on the revelation of al-Baqarah 245.
