Turned Away at Uhud
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri was an Ansari of the Khazraj. At Uhud, a boy of thirteen, he was brought by his father and offered for battle, but the Prophet ﷺ judged him too young and sent him back; his father Malik ibn Sinan fought on and was among the wounded of that day. 1 Stories of the Sahabah · pp. 274 — Zakariyya Kandhlawi — Abu Sa'id, aged thirteen, turned back from Uhud for his youth; his father at Uhud.
A Scholar and Teacher of the Ummah
He became one of the most learned of the younger Companions, and a great narrator of hadith. He would welcome the students of hadith who came to him — recalling the Prophet’s ﷺ charge to receive and teach the coming generations of seekers — and urged them to ask about whatever they did not understand. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 246 — Kandhlawi — Abu Sa'id welcomes students of hadith and encourages them to seek and preserve knowledge. He lived long in Madinah, a trusted source of the Prophet’s ﷺ words, and died there.
