The Du’a of Beautiful Endings

Busr narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ make this du’a:

اللَّهُمَّ اخْتِمْ لَنَا بِأَحْسَنِ الْعَوَاقِبِ وَنَجِّنَا مِنْ مَخَازِي الدُّنْيَا وَعَذَابِ الآخِرَةِ

”O Allah! Conclude all our affairs in a most beautiful manner, and save us from disgrace in this world and the punishment of the Hereafter.”

Narrated by Busr ibn Abi Artat al-Qurashi — Hayatus Sahaba Vol. 2 p. 395 (Kandhlawi)

The Prophet ﷺ added: “Whoever recites this du’a will die before being put through tribulations.” 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 395 — Kandhlawi — Busr ibn Abi Artat narrates the du'a.

Commander Under Mu’awiya

After Mu’awiya assumed the caliphate, he dispatched Busr — “a man from the Quraysh called Busr ibn Artat” — with an army, saying: “Since I have now annexed the entire region, I want you to leave with your army. When you leave the borders of Sham, draw your sword and kill anyone who refuses to pledge allegiance to me.” On that expedition Busr found Wa’il ibn Hujr still alive and brought him to Mu’awiya. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 422 — Kandhlawi — Mu'awiya dispatches Busr; he brings Wa'il ibn Hujr.

He was also dispatched “to the Hijaz and Yemen while the Madinites took the oath of allegiance at the hand of Mu’awiya.” 3 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 494 — Najeebabadi — Busr ibn Abi Artah dispatched to the Hijaz and Yemen.
