A Deception for the Sake of His Wealth
After Khaybar, Hajjaj ibn Ilat embraced Islam. To recover his Makkan wealth before the Quraysh could withhold it, he returned to Makkah with a false report — claiming the Muslims had been defeated at Khaybar. The Quraysh paid him gladly. He revealed the truth only to al-Abbas before fleeing back to the Prophet ﷺ. 1 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 209–210 — Najeebabadi — Hajjaj ibn Ilat returns to Makkah by deception after Khaybar to recover his loans and wealth.
