The First Double-Storey House in Egypt

Yazid ibn Abi Habib reported: “Kharija ibn Hudhafa was the first person to build a double-storey building in Egypt. When he received news of this, Umar wrote the following letter to Amr ibn al-As, the governor of Egypt: ‘The news has reached me that Kharija ibn Hudhafa has built a double-storey building. By doing this Kharija will be spying on his neighbours. You should therefore demolish the house as soon as this letter reaches you, in sha Allah.’” 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 325–326 — Kandhlawi — Umar orders the demolition of Kharija's house in Egypt.
