The Lots Over Badr
Khaythama and his son Sa’d both wished to go to Badr, but they had only one mount. “They drew lots — the son won, and was martyred at the hand of Amr ibn Abd Wadd.” 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 498–499 — Kandhlawi — Khaythama and his son draw lots over Badr; Sa'd is martyred.
The Dream and the Day
At Uhud, Khaythama came to the Prophet ﷺ and begged him to pray for his martyrdom — he had seen his son Sa’d in Jannah in a dream. The Prophet ﷺ granted it, and Khaythama was martyred that same day. 2 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 2 · pp. 72 — Idris Kandhlawi — Khaythama begs the Prophet ﷺ for martyrdom after dreaming of Sa'd in Jannah; granted that day.
