A Veteran of Badr
Khunais ibn Hudhafa was an early Muslim of Banu Sahm, who emigrated with the others to Abyssinia and then to Madinah. He fought at Badr and there took a serious wound. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 517 — Kandhlawi — Khunais a veteran of Badr.
Hafsa Widowed
Khunais was the first husband of Hafsa bint Umar. He died of his Badr wounds soon after, in Madinah, leaving her a young widow — and so it was that Umar later offered her to Abu Bakr and Uthman in turn, and finally the Prophet ﷺ himself married her. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 666 — Kandhlawi — Hafsa is widowed by Khunais; Umar offers her in marriage. 3 Stories of the Sahabah · pp. 247 — Zakariyya Kandhlawi — Khunais wounded in battle and dying soon after; Hafsa widowed.
