The Striking-Down of Abu Jahl

At Badr, two young Ansari boys had vowed to kill Abu Jahl, the arch-enemy of Islam. When they spied him, they darted at him “like two falcons” and struck him down. Mu’adh ibn Amr related that he cut Abu Jahl’s leg from below the knee; Abu Jahl’s son Ikrima then struck Mu’adh’s arm so that it hung by the skin — and Mu’adh fought on, finally setting his foot on the dangling arm and tearing it off to cast it aside. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 535–536 — Kandhlawi — Mu'adh ibn Amr strikes Abu Jahl at Badr; his arm is cut and left hanging, and he tears it off to keep fighting. When more than one youth claimed the kill, the Prophet ﷺ examined their swords and said they had both killed him — but he awarded Abu Jahl’s spoils to Mu’adh ibn Amr. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 535 — Kandhlawi — the Prophet judges 'you have both killed him' and awards Abu Jahl's spoils to Mu'adh ibn Amr ibn al-Jamuh.

Note: the sources distinguish this Mu’adh ibn Amr ibn al-Jamuh from the sons of Afra (Mu’adh and Mu’awwidh), who are also named among those who fell upon Abu Jahl at Badr.
