A Du’a That Lasted a Lifetime

al-Nabigha al-Ja’di reported that he once recited the following couplet before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:

“While our honour and status have reached the skies / we still aspire to transcend to greater heights.”

“And where do these greater heights lead to, O Abu Layla?” the Prophet ﷺ asked. “To Jannah,” came the reply. The Prophet ﷺ remarked: “That’s right, in sha Allah.”

When he had finished, the Prophet ﷺ commended him: “You have spoken well. May Allah never allow your teeth to fall out.”

A narrator named Ya’la said: “I saw al-Nabigha when he was over a hundred years of age, yet none of his teeth had fallen out.” 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 648–649 — Kandhlawi — al-Nabigha al-Ja'di's couplet and the Prophet's ﷺ du'a for his teeth.
