Chief of the Aws
Sa’d ibn Mu’adh was the chief of Banu Abd al-Ashhal of the Aws. When Mus’ab ibn Umayr’s gentle teaching reached him, he embraced Islam — and at once told his clan he would not speak to a man or woman among them until they believed; by that evening the whole tribe had accepted Islam. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 207–208 — Kandhlawi — Sa'd ibn Mu'adh embraces Islam through Mus'ab and brings his whole tribe to faith the same day.
The Judgment on Banu Qurayza
After the Battle of the Trench, when Banu Qurayza surrendered, both they and the Muslims agreed to abide by Sa’d’s ruling. Carried in wounded, he judged according to the law they had broken: that their fighting men be put to death, their women and children taken captive, and their property divided. 2 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 196–197 — Najeebabadi — Sa'd ibn Mu'adh's judgment on Banu Qurayza, accepted by both sides.
Death and the Shaking of the Throne
Sa’d had taken an arrow wound at the Trench, and he died of it soon after. The Prophet ﷺ told that seventy thousand angels came down for his funeral who had never before trodden the earth, and that the Throne of the Most Merciful shook at his passing. 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 550 — Kandhlawi — seventy thousand angels descend for Sa'd ibn Mu'adh's funeral; the Prophet says the angels are carrying his bier.
