Chief of the Khazraj
Sa’d ibn Ubada was a chief of the Khazraj of Banu Sa’ida, and at the conquest of Makkah he carried the banner at the head of the Ansar. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 186 — Kandhlawi — Sa'd ibn Ubada bears the Ansar's standard at the conquest of Makkah.
A Generosity Without Limit
His open-handedness was legendary: he would announce daily from his house that any who wished for meat or fat should come to him, and of the poor People of the Suffa he would take dozens home each evening to feed. When he brought the Prophet ﷺ a great vessel of food, the Prophet ﷺ ate and prayed for him: that the righteous always eat his food, that the fasting break their fast with him, and that the angels pray for him. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 218–219 — Kandhlawi — Sa'd's daily hospitality, feeding the People of the Suffa, and the Prophet's du'a for him.
The Saqifa
When the Prophet ﷺ passed away, it was around Sa’d ibn Ubada that the Ansar first gathered at the Saqifa, before the matter of the caliphate was settled upon Abu Bakr. 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 405 — Kandhlawi — the Ansar gather around Sa'd ibn Ubada at the Saqifa. He later went to Syria, and died in Hawran.
