The Orator Who Feared for His Deeds
Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammas was an Ansari of the Khazraj and the orator of the Ansar, a man of powerful voice. When the verse came down forbidding the believers to raise their voices above the Prophet’s ﷺ, Thabit shut himself in his house in grief, certain his loud speaking had ruined his deeds. The Prophet ﷺ, missing him, sent for him and reassured him — he was not of the people of the Fire, but of the people of Paradise. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 384–385 — Kandhlawi — Thabit's fear over the verse of al-Hujurat; the Prophet reassures him he is of the people of Paradise.
