Eldest Son of Abu Bakr
Abd al-Rahman was the eldest son of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq and the full brother of Aisha (both born of Umm Ruman). He had seen the assassin Abu Lu’lu conspiring with others beforehand, and after Umar was stabbed it was Abd al-Rahman who recognised the dagger and reported what he had witnessed. 1 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 382, 384 — Najeebabadi — Abd al-Rahman, brother of Aisha; he recognises the dagger used to stab Umar.
Faith Above Gain
In his later years he would not pledge allegiance to Yazid in Mu’awiya’s lifetime. When a hundred thousand dirhams were sent to win him over, he refused, saying, “Should I sell my faith for my worldly gain?” and withdrew to Makkah, where he died suddenly in his sleep. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 281 — Kandhlawi — Abd al-Rahman refuses 100,000 dirhams to pledge to Yazid and dies near Makkah.
