Wife of Abu Bakr, Mother of Aisha
Umm Ruman was the second wife of Abu Bakr and mother of his daughter Aisha and son Abd al-Rahman — both born of her — and a fellow Muslim alongside her husband from the earliest days. 1 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 317 — Najeebabadi — Umm Ruman wife of Abu Bakr; mother of Aisha and Abd al-Rahman.
On the Hijra and at the Proposal
She emigrated to Madinah in the second wave, with Aisha and Asma, under the escort of Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr; at Bayda their camel bolted, and she cried in alarm for her young daughter until it was caught beyond the valley. 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 370 — Kandhlawi — Umm Ruman's camel bolts on the Hijra; she cries out for Aisha. When Khawla bint Hakim came bearing the Prophet’s ﷺ proposal for Aisha, it was Umm Ruman she found first, and she said, “I would love it — but let us wait for Abu Bakr,” before the matter could be settled. 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 664 — Kandhlawi — Khawla bint Hakim brings the proposal first to Umm Ruman, who awaits Abu Bakr's word. She died in Madinah toward the end of 6 AH. 4 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 207 — Najeebabadi — Umm Ruman, Aisha's mother, dies toward the end of 6 AH.
