The Father Washed by the Angels

His father Hanzala ibn Abu Aamir was martyred at Uhud and bathed by the angels — “He left as soon as he heard the call to battle while he still needed to take a bath.” 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 551–552 — Kandhlawi — Hanzala the father martyred at Uhud and bathed by the angels.

A Narrator of the Sunnah

In the house of Qays ibn Sa’d ibn Ubadah, when they asked Qays to lead the prayer, he declined. Abdullah ibn Hanzala then transmitted the Prophet’s ﷺ ruling:

A man has a greater right to the front of his bed, to the front of his animal, and to lead the salah in his house.

2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 173 — Kandhlawi — Abdullah ibn Hanzala narrates the hadith on a man's prior right in his own house.

He was also with Salman al-Farisi in an army when someone began to vilify Maryam and her son during the recitation of Surah Maryam; Salman rebuked them. 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 669 — Kandhlawi — Abdullah ibn Hanzala with Salman al-Farisi during the rebuke of one who insulted Maryam.

At the Battle of the Harra

In 63 AH, when the people of Madinah rose against Yazid, the Companion Abdullah ibn Zayd narrated: “During the Battle of the Harra, someone came to me and said that people were pledging to die at the hands of Ibn Hanzala. I said, ‘None may pledge this after the demise of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’” 4 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 265 — Kandhlawi — at the Harra, men pledge to die at the hand of Ibn Hanzala.
