The Loophole of Faith
Abu Basir was a Muslim of the Quraysh who fled to Madinah after Hudaybiyya; under the treaty the Prophet ﷺ handed him back to the two men sent to claim him. On the way he outwitted and slew one of his captors and returned, but realising the Prophet ﷺ would have to surrender him again, he left for the seacoast at al-Is. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 174 — Kandhlawi — Abu Basir returned under the treaty, escapes by killing a captor, and settles on the coast.
The Band That Broke the Clause
Fugitive Muslims who escaped Makkah — Abu Jandal among them — gathered to him until they were a force that raided the Quraysh caravans to Syria. The losses grew so heavy that the Quraysh themselves begged the Prophet ﷺ to take the band into Madinah, waiving the very clause they had demanded. Abu Basir died on the coast just as the Prophet’s ﷺ summons reached him. 2 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 206–207 — Najeebabadi — Abu Basir's coastal band raids the Quraysh until they ask the Prophet to take them in; his death at al-Is.
