The Tactician of Badr

At Badr, when the Muslims first encamped at a watering-place, al-Hubab asked the Prophet ﷺ: “Is this the place Allah has commanded you to take — so we may neither advance nor retreat from it — or is it an opinion, a tactic of war?” The Prophet ﷺ said it was an opinion of war. al-Hubab then said: “O Messenger of Allah, this is not the place. Let us move forward to the nearest well of the Quraysh, halt at it and stop up the wells behind it, and build a cistern that we drink from while they will have nothing.” The Prophet ﷺ acted upon his counsel. 1 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 2 · pp. 60 — Idris Kandhlawi — al-Hubab's Badr counsel: control the wells, deny the Quraysh water.

At Uhud, at Tabuk

‘One Amir From Us, One From You’

At Saqifa Banu Sa’idah, when the Ansar gathered to make Sa’d ibn Ubada amir and the Muhajirun arrived, al-Hubab rose and proposed:

“One leader from you and one from us! I have the perfect solution and the best medicine for this. If you agree, we could make this as pleasant as a young camel.”
