The Martyr of Raji’
Asim ibn Thabit was an Ansari archer of the Aws who fought at Badr. He led the party betrayed at al-Raji’; surrounded by archers of Hudhayl who urged him to surrender, he refused to put himself in the hands of disbelievers and prayed, “O Allah, inform Your Prophet of our state,” then fought until he and his companions were martyred. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 505–507 — Kandhlawi — Asim commands at Raji', refuses to surrender to the disbelievers, and is martyred.
Guarded by the Hornets
Asim had vowed never to touch a polytheist nor be touched by one. When the Quraysh — whose chief he had slain at Badr — sent men to take a part of his body, Allah sent a swarm of hornets that drove them off and guarded his body, so that they could not reach it; for this he was called Hami al-Dabr, “the one protected by the swarm.” 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 598 — Kandhlawi — Asim's vow; Allah sends hornets to guard his body from the disbelievers; hence Hami al-Dabr.
By night Allah sent a flood that washed the body away from Salafa — a Qurayshi woman who had vowed to drink wine from his skull. Umar later remarked:
3 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 2 · pp. 77, 79 — Idris Kandhlawi — a flood washes Asim's body away from Salafa; Umar's saying on Allah's protection of His servants after death.“Allah protects His special servants even after their death.”
