The Two Hijras

Asma bint Umays was of Khath’am, an early Muslim who emigrated with her husband Ja’far ibn Abi Talib to Abyssinia, where she bore him Abdullah — the first child born to a Muslim couple in that exile. She returned with him by sea, meeting the Prophet ﷺ at the time of Khaybar; when Umar told the Abyssinia emigrants that the Muhajirun of Madinah had outstripped them, Asma took the matter to the Prophet ﷺ, who confirmed that her people had two hijras to their credit, not one. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 359–360 — Kandhlawi — Asma defends the 'two hijras' of the Abyssinia emigrants; the Prophet confirms it.

Widow of Ja’far, Wife of Abu Bakr and Ali

When Ja’far was martyred at Mu’ta, the Prophet ﷺ came to his house and wept over his children; Asma at once knew. After her iddah, Abu Bakr married her and she bore him Muhammad at Dhul-Hulayfa as the Prophet ﷺ set out for the Farewell Pilgrimage. 2 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 1 · pp. 466–467 — Idris Kandhlawi — the Prophet weeps over Ja'far's children at his martyrdom; Asma learns of his death. 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 228 — Kandhlawi — Asma bears Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr at Dhul-Hulayfa on the Farewell Hajj. After Abu Bakr’s death she married Ali, and bore him Muhammad al-Asghar and Yahya.
