A Son of the Prophet ﷺ

Ibrahim was born in 8 AH to Maria the Copt“the mother of the Messenger of Allah’s ﷺ son Ibrahim” — among the two slave-girls sent as gifts. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 160 — Kandhlawi — Maria the mother of Ibrahim. “It was during that year that the Prophet’s ﷺ son Ibrahim was born to Maria Qibtiyya.” 2 History of Islam · Vol 1 · pp. 229 — Najeebabadi — Ibrahim born to Maria the Copt.

At the Blacksmith’s House

Anas narrated: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was most compassionate towards his family. He had a son who was being suckled by the wife of a blacksmith at one end of Madinah. We would go to see the child at times when the house was filled with smoke from the burning of idhkhir grass in the furnace. The Prophet ﷺ would then kiss the child and smell him.” 3 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 500–501 — Kandhlawi — Anas: the Prophet ﷺ kisses and smells Ibrahim at the blacksmith's house.

’The Eye Weeps and the Heart Grieves’

Anas also narrated: “I saw Ibrahim surrendering his soul in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. With his eyes filled with tears, the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Although the eyes weep and the heart grieves, we shall say only that which pleases Allah. O Ibrahim! I swear by Allah that we are deeply saddened by your demise.’ 4 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 596 — Kandhlawi — Anas: the Prophet ﷺ at Ibrahim's death.

Makhul narrated through Abdur Rahman ibn Awf that the Prophet ﷺ added: “This (these tears) is because of mercy and whoever is not merciful will not have mercy shown to him… The balance of his suckling will be done in Jannah.” 5 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 596 — Kandhlawi — Makhul via Abdur Rahman ibn Awf: 'the balance of his suckling will be done in Jannah.'
