A Proposal for the Bereaved
Khawla bint Hakim was the wife of the Companion Uthman ibn Maz’un. After the death of Khadija, when the Prophet ﷺ was grieved and alone, Khawla came and asked whether he might wish to marry again. He asked, “To whom?” She offered him both a virgin — Aisha bint Abi Bakr — and a widow — Sawda bint Zam’a — and the Prophet ﷺ bade her go to both. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 2 · pp. 664–665 — Kandhlawi — Khawla offers the Prophet the names of Aisha and Sawda after Khadija's death; he sends her to both.
Carrying the Word
Khawla bore the proposals back and forth — to Umm Ruman and Abu Bakr concerning Aisha, and to Sawda’s father in his old age — until both marriages were arranged through her hands. 2 Seerat-e-Mustafa · Vol 1 · pp. 603–605 — Idris Kandhlawi — Khawla conveys the Prophet's proposals to Aisha's parents and Sawda's father.
