He of Two Testimonies
Khuzayma ibn Thabit was an Ansari of the Aws. The Prophet ﷺ once bought a horse from a bedouin who then denied the sale and demanded a witness. Khuzayma stepped forward and testified that the sale had taken place — though he had not been present. Asked how he could witness what he had not seen, he answered that since he believed the Prophet ﷺ in all he reported from the heavens, he surely believed him in this. For this the Prophet ﷺ counted Khuzayma’s testimony as equal to that of two men, and he was ever after called Dhu’sh-Shahadatayn. 1 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 3 · pp. 103 — Kandhlawi — Khuzayma testifies to the horse-sale he did not witness, on the strength of believing the Prophet; his testimony counted as two. The Aws counted him among their glories — “the man whose testimony the Messenger of Allah ﷺ allowed in place of two.” 2 Hayatus Sahaba · Vol 1 · pp. 391 — Kandhlawi — the Aws's pride in Khuzayma Dhu'sh-Shahadatayn. He was later martyred at Siffin, fighting on the side of Ali.
